Who We Are

Austin Town Hall Farmers Market (ATHFM) is a farmers’ market in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. We are located outside the Austin Town Hall Park, 5610 W. Lake St Chicago, IL 60644.

Our objective is to create access to fresh produce, support the local economy by purchasing from food artisans and other businesses.

Austin Town Hall Farmers Market is an initiative of Austin Coming Together and their strategic partners and City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE).

Our Vision: To create access for residents to patronize farms and local business owners by purchasing fresh, locally grown produce, prepared foods, baked goods, artisanal items, vegan, and value-added products.

Our Mission: To bring the community a vibrant shopping experience where residents can access healthy food, build bonds with neighbors, and enjoy time outdoors. We strive to include in our market items that are original, handmade, unique, and designed or produced locally.

ATHFM History

April 2012 Mayor Rahm Emmanuel announced 5 new Westside Markets. These markets will be located in areas that have limited grocery options, known as food deserts. The sites are near public transportation and will accept LINK cards.

This market has changed operational hands a few times since its inception. In 2020 Forty Acres Fresh Market took over market operations with a commitment to invest in its growth and expansion. In April 2023, the market’s first full-time year-round Market Manager was hired. The managers sole purpose is to curate a market that addresses the needs and wants expressed from the area residents. Also to create a space that builds on community while providing programming for all ages.

2024 our name has changed from the Austin Town Hall City Market to the Austin Town Hall Farmers Market per DCASE as our status has changed to a community partner.

What People Have Said …

“The markets will be a welcoming environment for residents to gather safely outside and “bring more foot traffic and bring more activation to Austin”

Alisa Baum, DCASE (2020)

“Farmers markets have evolved into more of makers markets. You have people that bake, you have people that make artisan crafts. It diversifies what’s being offered there. Houseplants help beautify a person’s home. They add more oxygen to the air. People in Austin deserve places where they can beautify their homes,”

Liz Abunaw, Owner, Forty Acres Fresh Market (2020)
